Interior design, rockets and people

Which is easier: ๐Ÿš€ vs โœ๏ธ ?

Sorry to break it to you guys, but interior design isnโ€™t rocket science. Developing a sensible floor-plan, creating beautiful renders or understanding construction sequences can be learnt on the fly.

So what makes our jobs as interior designers so difficult then?

The consequence of good interior design will have the inhabitants (people) feel safe, comfortable and optimised for the proposed activity within the space. Well designed homes will also help people live better. The key to creating masterful interiors is to understand PEOPLE and therefore, creating great spaces for PEOPLE are way more complex than rockets. ๐Ÿš€

Oh, the paradox of people, they bring us such joy! and also it stresses us out to want to meet their needs!

We are hell-bent on believing that to constantly engage with our clients with that high energy, the work place at BuildBuilt needs to be a safe and healthy space for creativity and positive energy.

The culture cure: A great place to work

With constant industry challenges, and a demanding scope of work, we took a huge risk* by engaging an external auditor Great Place To Work to survey 30 people within BuildBuilt. We wanted to understand by a general standard, if we were up to scratch at the workplace. If we failed this survey, at least we would know which direction to pick ourselves up!

*risk: aside from the tough core of the work, the interior design industry if fraught with negative stigmas and known to have toxic work places

And surprisingly, we nailed it on our first try! 90% of us thought that BuildBuilt was a great place to work. To pass this survey, we needed to have a minimum of 65%. Great Place to Work has indicated that BuildBuilt is the first interior design company in Singapore to have won this badge of honour.

The survey looked at many aspects of our culture and company, some to highlight are camaraderie, integrity, communication, engagement, support, competency, pride, respect, team work, leadership, fairness and even hospitality!
